Winter Boughs
he Winter Boughs socks design was inspired by pine tree forests in the winter time with frost and snow glistening on the branches. The sock is knitted toe up with a short row toe and heel. The lace pattern of fir trees goes up the foot and around the leg, with silver beads added using the crochet hook method to the final round of trees. There is a ribbed cuff with a picot cast off (involving a cable cast on technique) to represent the tree tops. The sock comes in 3 sizes, S, M and L adult foot with different size needles being used to achieve the correct size.
This sock design first appeared in issue 161 of The Knitter Magazine under the name ‘Alder’ socks.
This sock design by josiekitten offers lots of interest to the knitter. Worked from the toe up, the design features a lace motif resembling tiny trees; this motif is picked out with metallic silver beads on the final eight rounds of the pattern below the cuff.
The cuff is finished with a pretty picot cast-off. She has knitted her socks in a hand-dyed sock yarn set from Pixie Yarn, which includes a contrast colour for the toes, heels and cuffs.
