This granny square uses cables and post stitches to create a three dimensional, textured fabric.

Variegated yarns give this blanket a very organic, almost watercolor look although you can just as easily use solids to emphasize the textures as well. (I think that a red flower with cream, purple and green borders would make a lovely Christmas blanket).
