Winter in Provence
This pattern consists of both a skirt and a top.I created this french-inspired, less-is-more-styled set before going to visit beautiful Provence in the end of autumn. Little did I know that I would have to use the skirt and top other than for photos. Being here I realize that thin wool is the perfect thing to wear in the Mediterranean climate when autumn turns into winter - with it’s damp, cold days and even colder evenings. And choosing the name “Winter in Provence” seamed very sensible.
The elegant skirt is knitted top-down, with a plied hem that hides an elastic band and an (optional) zipper in the left side. The skirt is tailored with increases from waist to hips, and decreases towards the knees. It is finished off with a flounce that is both beautiful and practical, and make the skirt “swing” when walking about.
The top is worked in the round and bottom up to the beginning of “sleeves”, where stiches are cast off for arm-pits and new stiches are cast on for sleeves. Yoke is shaped first by raglan-shaping and then followed by regular decreases in the striped section. Both top and skirt are supposed to be rather tight-fitting. I give you instructions for 5 skirt-sizes and 6 sizes for the top.
I used the organic wool Semilla fino from BC yarn to make this set - but you could choose another wool as long as you respect the gauge. The skirt can be knitted in 5 different sizes with hip-measurements between 91 and 108cm/36-42,5”. You need between 960 and 1200 m to make the skirt.
The top can be knitted in 6 different sizes with bust-measurements between 76 and 106cm/30-42”. You need between 960 and 1680metres to make the top. If you make both pieces you could do with less wool.
