I hate cold ears in the winter. A double layer of stranded colourwork soon sorts that out. And that’s why I love this hat.

A nordic-style snowflake motif is used on the inside of the hat, and a funky skull motif is used for the outside, together with some fairisle peerie designs, with the two sections folded together along a purled ridge. The layers are then folded in half and knit together, creating a beautifully warm layer. The rest of the hat is knit in stockinette, with central double decreasing to the crown. The entire hat is knit in the round.

Use your favourite hand dyed, variegated yarn with a solid contrast, or use a mix of coloured solid/semi-solid yarns.

Pattern has instructions for knitting a hat to fit a 23” (58.5cm), 21” (53.5cm) or a 19” (48.25cm) head. The motifs are charted, all other instructions are written.
