Winter in Ohio can be pretty bleak -- cold and gray are the adjectives of choice. As I suffered a week of sub-zero temperatures (outfitted in my warmest black boots and coats), I bemoaned my utter lack of warm black scarves. But because black on its own tends to wash out my complexion (especially when I’m wan from the complete lack of sunlight), I wanted some color to perk it up.

This scarf is the result: a luxe union of ultra-warm and super-soft black yarn and oh-so-interesting color- and texture-changing yarns. It’s a simple design that looks much harder -- and more expensive! -- than it is.

Because you use bulky yarn throughout, the pattern goes very quickly. It would make a wonderful last-minute gift during the colder months!

This pattern requires approximately 225 yards bulky weight solid color yarn, preferably with some mohair or a slightly fuzzy texture (shown is Filatura di Crosa Love), and approximately 175 yards Red Heart Boutique Magical, or a similar highly variegated yarn.

This is my first published pattern; please don’t hesitate to contact me with questions or if you spot any errors. It is, and will remain, free to the Ravelry community as a big THANK YOU for all the support I’ve received here over the past two years.

I hope you enjoy the pattern and your fabulous new scarf!
