Winter Sun Bobble Hat
This design has a triangular colour block effect which is a visual dream for lovers of geometric shape, the texture is beautiful and gives a stunning knit look and appealing elasticity to the finished garment. It can also be made in one solid colour.
You would need around 200g of the Purl Soho yarn but different yarns have used much less - this is a good stash buster.
Possible substitutes for the Purl Soho Super Soft Merino would be Malabrigo Rasta, Mirasol Yaya or Drops Polaris. Super chunky yarns can vary quite significantly, as frequently yarn companies put yarns thicker than Aran into this category. However, I have used both heavier and lighter weight very successfully with this pattern, the Purl Soho is on the lighter. Personally, I prefer natural fibres, but it is important to me that all tastes, preferences and budgets are catered for, so experiment if you want to! It is also worth baring in mind that single ply gives the best stitch definition for this pattern.
You can read my blog post and see the versions I have made in different yarns at www.zoedidit.com.
Whilst this pattern is not graded, it is easily adaptable for a few different sizes. Use Aran weight yarn/5.5mm hook for a baby 0-6 months depending on size of baby’s head. If you double dk weight yarn/6mm hook you will have a toddler size 2-4. Chunky weight yarn/6 or 7mm hook will work for most children.
If you use Instagram you will find a Winter Sun Bobble Hat Testers Highlight in my stories @zoecurtiscrochet to show you the different versions they made with lots of different yarns.
