The Winter Winds Hat is worked using a handful of different techniques, including twined knitting, stranded knitting, and an “eye of partridge” pattern usually reserved for sock heels. The hat is worked using both ends from the same skein, resulting in a dense fabric that is ideal for keeping your head warm.

Finished Size 15 (17, 19, 21, 22, 23)“ circumference and 6 (6¼, 7½, 8¼, 9, 9½)” tall. Hats shown measure 19” (gold) and 22” (blue-green).

Yarn Mountain Colors Twizzle (85% Merino wool, 15% silk; 240 yd 219 m/3½ oz 100 g): Bobcat (gold) or Harmony Dove (blue-green), 1 skein (see Notes).

Needles Size 4 (3.5 mm): 16” circular (cir). Size 6 (4 mm): 16” cir and set of double-pointed (dpn). Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.

Notions Markers (m); tapestry needle.

Gauge 24 sts and 28 rnds = 4” in twined knitting on larger needle.

NOTES

• This hat is worked in the round from the bottom up.
• Wind a center-pull ball so that the yarn can be drawn from both ends.
• The larger sample, including the pom-pom, used all of a skein of yarn. For the two largest sizes or a very full pom-pom, purchase an extra skein.
