I know there are a lot of witch hat patterns out there but I wanted one that was simple to do (suitable for beginners) and get had that pronounced shape with the tall point and gradually increasing width. The beauty of this hat is that it fits most people as it simply sits on top of your head (although I’ll give instructions for increasing the size). However, I also wanted to have a good brim which was not floppy. After trying and retrying this I gave up for a while and only when I was making glass flowers, I had the thought of using floristry wire around the brim. This is completely optional, but I love it as you can adjust the brim to get the look you want.

Once you have the hat made, why not think about unleashing your creativity and decorating it with a crocheted cobweb, or maybe even a spider hanging from the brim.

Materials Required
2 x 100g balls of Black Aran Yarn. Shown in Cascade Yarn (shade 220) - this is a 100% pure wool which I prefer but if you would rather use an acrylic yarn, you can substitute just remember it is an Aran weight yarn you need to use
4mm Crochet Hook - if your hat is looking a little loose go down a size, if too tight go up a size
Crafting wire, floristry wire I used a 26-gauge wire
Cutters for the Floristry Wire
Needle nose pliers (optional)
Stitch marker
Darning needle/tapestry needle
