This is a “recipe” and not a “pattern” because it includes very loose direction only, rather than meticulously detailed step-by-step instructions. It is more like a classic European-style pattern, wherein the knitter is expected to have some prior knowledge of various techniques. You don’t necessarily need to know these techniques beforehand, so long as you can competently make an online search.
