Witchy Becky Zebra
Becky’s Story
Becky the Zebra always wondered what it felt like to be a witch. One day, Becky made a startling discovery while walking through the forest (to keep in shape, she is proud of her figure, especially her “back end”). Becky had stumbled upon a witch’s hat, broom and shoes lying on the ground next to an unusually situated house!
She quickly put on the hat and used a magic spell (which came to her out of thin air) to create a second pair of shoes (zebras need two pairs of shoes). She absolutely loved the way her sparkly red shoes brought out her stripes!
Becky had a little trouble using the broom as transportation as it wanted to keep moving on its own, but she did find it to be delicious and began munching happily!
Becky is crocheted from the legs-up using join-as-you-go technique. Her head and tail are sewn separately to allow variation in placement. Ears, mane, head and tail will be created first. Legs are joined together using both sides of a joining chain, all at once and continuing on to the body and neck. Use INVISIBLE decrease for ALL decreases. Wire is used for posability (written instructions plus pictorial for this).
Yarn: 175 yards black and white striping yarn. Small amount of glittery red (Caron SS Party yarn, Hobby Lobby I love this yarn).
Small amount glittery black for nose, hat.
10 yards straw color yarn for broom bristles.
Natural wood/branch colored yarn for broom handle.
Safety eyes (if used): 10mm.
Felted or embroidered eyes will more easily allow for “surprised look” as shown in images.
Darning needle.
Felting needle/black/white yarn fluff (optional) for eyes (or embroidery thread).
Wire cat brush for mane, tail and edge of broom.
Polyfil. I use Polyfil brand crafter’s choice dry polyester packing for doll making; I find this works the most effectively with shaped/sculpted pieces without over-stretching stitches.
Hook: 3.5mm (or similar).
20-gauge plastic coated wire for legs and broom.
Glue for assembling parts of broom.
