Wollig cardigan
Wollig (woolly) cardi is a really quick knit when you want something to wrap yourself up in and feel really warm and loved.
It is beginner friendly and easily adaptable in terms of length and width. For more advanced knitters, you can experiment with creating your own chunky yarn by combining yarns from your stash to get up to required gauge. How about some DK with a couple of strands of mohair? Or a real marled mashup with four or five strands of sport or sock yarn? It’s a great way of using up random skeins which don’t currently have a home.
Construction: The cardigan is knit sideways. The back is worked first. Left and right front panels are then worked to match, and have integral button/buttonhole bands. Sleeves are worked, with fold back cuffs, then the garment is sewn together before adding the collar.
SIZES
28 – 30 (32 – 34) (36 -38) (40-42) (48-50) (52-54) inches
71 – 76 (82 – 87) (92-97) (102-107) (112- 117) (122-127) (132-137) cms
Yarn consumption:
MC: 800 (850, 900, 950) (1050, 1200, 1350) m
CC: 35 (35, 70, 70) (70, 105, 105) m
Yarns:
MC: any chunky yarn or e.g. King Cole Subtle Drifter chunky (69% acrylic, 25% cotton, 6% wool) 100g / 156 m. As an alternative, worsted/aran held double
CC: Super chunky e.g. Alize Fashion Boucle (70% acrylic 25% wool, 5% polyamide) 100g / 35m (you can hold 2/3 strands of aran / worsted together to get the same effect). Gauge isn’t that important. You are looking for a really chunky effect.
GAUGE
Stocking Stitch: 12 sts x 24 rows = 10 cm (4 in) using MC and CC
Gauge Swatch:
Co 20 sts and work 2 pattern repeats (24 rows).
