Women's Knit Cloche
I designed this cloche-style hat to display a pair of pretty buttons - in my case, I chose tagua nut buttons dyed in my favorite color (orange!). I used a soft Peruvian wool in two bright colors to complement the buttons, but this hat would look equally nice in a soft cotton or cotton blend for more year-round wear. The band is knit in garter stitch and turned sideways; then stitches are picked up along the edge of the band, and the rest of the hat is worked in the round. It’s finished with sharp decreases that make for a flatter and more textured crown than you find on an average beanie. Last of all, the buttons are sewn to the overlapping ends of the band for decoration.
