These Selbu-inspired mittens include a meandering moose motif highlighted with spruce twigs on the back of the hand and a moose hoof-print and similar branch highlights on the palm and thumb. The small diamond accents on the thumb and near the finger tips echo the chevron pattern in the cuff of each mitten, characteristic of traditional women’s Selbu mitten patterns. Knitting each mitten with a mirrored pattern allows the moose to wander in opposite directions through their spruce forest.

Because the pattern of each mitten is mirrored and the thumbs varied slightly, charts for each hand and thumb have been included. The right hand mitten uses Charts A & Chart C while the left hand mitten uses Chart B & Chart D. The chevron cuff pattern is used in both mittens and includes only written instructions.
