Wonderland Hat
Sometimes the Mad Hatter stirs within me and I want to create comfortable and interesting hats, well suited for adventurers who live in Northern lands. Would you like to explore the Wonderland?
This is my favourite entrelac hat version. It starts with a five point star at the very top of the hat. From there step by step, turn after turn, the allover entrelac technique grows into a hat. The edging of this hat accommodates the wishes of every wearer — it can be straight or with flaps, which are especially helpful for children or travelers in nature in any weather.
This hat works well together with my entrelac mittens Knit me! or the Rabbit hole cowl.
The best yarn for this project would be sport weight yarn (300 m/100 g). Depending on the size of hat you will need 50 to 100 g. When using yarn with gradient colour changes you can alternate the yarns, from tier to tier, either using 2 (or more) different balls or working from opposite ends of the same ball, if using yarn with gradient colour changes. You may use leftovers and scraps as well.
This pattern is meant for knitters with a good understanding of knitting entrelac.
Techniques used in this pattern: Judie’s Magic CO, Backwards Loop CO and Crochet CO, working entrelac in the round, and applied I-cord.
