Herringbone and reverse linen stitch in brilliant colors pay homage to the very British and very whimsical classic- Alice in Wonderland. To avoid the awkward joins you would get knitting herringbone in the round, this cowl is knitted flat as a scarf with buttons. Twist it, loop it around, half-button it, whatever you like! Lots of luxurious silky fringe makes this extra playful and vibrant.

Know that herringbone stitch creates a curling garment, which actually kind of lends itself to the upside down world of Alice. This pattern has fun with it. Worn as a single loop around the neck and buttoned twisted makes it something closer to fiber jewelry. Double wrapped flat around the neck and only half buttoned allows the scarf to fold so beautifully in the back, while draping more flat in the front for display of the buttons and fringe.

Sizing:
One size, knit as long as you like. Recommend using up entire skein for body of scarf, ensuring you can wrap around neck twice!

Gauge: 40 stitches & 20 rows for 4 inches of herringbone stitch
