This chart is for a great little fox. It is part of my woodland series that includes an owl and I have ambitions for a deer, though I am a bit daunted by the antlers. We shall see!

When I knit up this fox, I used multiple colours and carried the extra yarn behind. If there was a long stretch between colours, I left a long tail and cut the other colour, coming back and weaving in the ends with a crochet hook after I was finished. Too many strands being taken behind the work can make your picture really bumpy.

I used a French Knot for the circle that represents his nose, though you could also use a bobble or a bead--basically anything that will result in a nose that sticks out. I used clear, glittery beads for his eyes--I just put a bead on a really fine crochet hook, slipped the stitch off the left needle onto the hook, slid the bead down onto the entire stitch, then put it back on the left needle and knit it (above the bead). If you don’t want a 3-D nose and/or eyes, you could always just use different colours of yarn.
