Stitches Used:
- K: Knit
- P: Purl
- St(s): means Stitch(es)
- K1fb: This is a M1 stitch. After knitting a stitch, don’t drop it from your needle, but knit into the back loop of the stitch to make one. Then drop the stitch as usual. Now you should have two stitches in the place of one.
- K2tog: Knit two stitches together like they are one.
- Cable: Slide the indicated stitches to a cable needle and hold to back or front as requested, and then knit the next 1 or 3 stitches before knitting the stitches on the cable needle.
- Knit into the front, back and then front again to make 3 stitches out of 1 stitch. Used for first row of thumb gusset.
Measurements:
This pattern is made for size 4-6 inch wrists and a hand that is no larger then 8 inches when measured all the way around the palm. (pull tape tight for measurement) It is a size extra small to small pattern.
It’s hard to give instructions for knitting with cables while doing colorwork. I did the best I could. There is a picture tutorial to explain as well as a thumb tutorial.
The finished object measures from top to bottom (finger area to wrist) 10 inches. Across the palm (measured flat) it is 3 inches without stretch applied to 4 inches when stretched.
You will need:
- 225 yards of worsted weight yarn. About 150 in the main color and 55-75 in offset color. Two skeins of worsted weight yarn (50g) of Knit Picks Wool is perfect for one pair. I had some left over.
- Size 4.5mm double pointed knitting needles or magic loop needle. I found that my needles are actually a bit smaller then normal. I would say they are closer to a 4.25 needle.
- One small piece of worsted weight scrap yarn for the thumb. Yarn needle for weaving in ends.
- A hand to put the finished item on.
- Two cable needles. Yes, you do need two. You cable around stationary stitches at two parts.
