These Woodland Socks are very cozy, and very warm. I love wearing this kind of sock to take a long walk in the woods, or for some winter cocooning. They are made of DK weight yarn, giving them extra sturdiness to face the elements and any wear. If typical lace patterns should always use yarn overs, I’m bending the rules with this pattern, as an openwork design wouldn’t have been as warm. But even in this bulkier, non-standard use of lace, you will find that none of the classic lacy elegance is left out.

Construction
These socks are worked from the cuff down, knitting the cuff first, followed by the leg, both worked in the round. Afterwards, the heel flap and heel turn are worked flat. Stitches are picked up along the edges of the flap to form the gusset, which is worked in the round, followed by the foot and the toes. Stitches are grafted together to close the sock. The stitch pattern is worked on the cuff and on the top of the foot. The final pattern is slightly different, to smoothly finish the design.

Because of the large number of stitches used in the stitch pattern, only one size is provided. Using a slightly different gauge to achieve different measurements is encouraged. Tips about gauge are included in the book.
