This versatile crochet shawl pattern is designed to show the beautiful colours in a unique skein of hand-dyed sock yarn to their best advantage. One 100g (approximately 400m) skein of 4ply/3ply/fingering/sock weight yarn is all you need to make this lovely asymmetrical shawl. Because the pattern begins with a couple of stitches and gradually increases, you can just keep crocheting until you have used your whole skein of special hand-dyed yarn.

The design includes ribbed stitches formed by working into the back loops of stitches with contrasting rows of mesh. Teeth/steps with little picot points along one edge form as the shawl grows.

Gauge/tension is not particularly important for this pattern so you can use any yarn you like and a hook size that gives you a drape and feel that you’re happy with. Remember that blocking will make your shawl grow a bit, eliminate any tendency for the edges to roll and make it drape more softly.

This shawl pattern is in clear written form and includes a crochet chart. You can also choose whether to download the pattern written in US terms or UK terms.

I have rated this crochet shawl pattern as being suitable for an advanced beginner or intermediate crocheter, as the pattern involves working into the back loops of stitches and occasionally making picots. (I know picots aren’t for everyone, so if you really dislike making them just leave them out - your shawl will still be beautiful!)

I think this pattern would be enjoyable for any crocheter who is looking for a relaxing project and enjoys the satisfaction of transforming a fabulous hand-dyed skein of sock yarn into a gorgeous accessory.

Finished size: 52”/132cm wide, 14”/36cm at its deepest point.
