The Woods Creek Shawl crosses cabled columns and lace stitches for an optical illusion of cable circles on top of lace circles. This shawl is worked top down with three wedges of Adventure Cable patterning, and finished with a wide border of garter stitch.

This stitch pattern was a bit of a shawl shape surprise, since so many of the stitches are crossed over each other it pulled the yarn into a narrower shape than the traditional triangle shawl. I decided to take advantage of this shape by repeating the pattern three times across the shawl for a crescent shawl shape that for all intents and purposes should really be a ¾ square shawl! The twisting flipping lace and cables pattern worked in the red yarn took me immediately to beautiful autumn leaves floating down an icy creek just about ready for snowfall.

Pattern Notes
This shawl is worked by casting on a narrow border of garter stitch and working a garter stitch ‘tab’ to pick up from. Because the Adventure Cables patterning in this pattern uses cabled stitches that are also crossed it pulls in more than a typical pattern. For this reason the wedge shapes that increase 2 stitches every rightside row are narrower than the typical 90 degree shape. 3 wedges are worked for a shawl that is slightly more than 180 degrees with 6 stitches increased on each right side row (one on either side of each of three pattern wedges). The Garter Stitch patterning increases 25 stitches every 10 rows of work.
