Wool of Bat Mitts
Eye of newt and toe of frog,
Wool of bat and tongue of dog.
Knit these mitts and you will find,
spooky fortunes of every kind.
These are knit in the round with the thumb knit as a gusset and then continued after completing the palm and back of the mitt. The decorative cuff shaping leads to a simple eyelet lace fingerless mitt. The cuff is inspired by the delicate shape of bat wings and made to flare out from the wrist. The lace that makes up the palm and back of the glove features a groupings of three eyelets, the number 3 chosen for its connotations of magic.
For this pattern you will need:
- Fingering Weight Yarn - for the grey pair I used Half Baked Hand Dyed Sock Yarn in The Night of the Hunter but any fingering weight yarn should do.
- 2.75mm double pointed needles
- Stitch Markers (I recommend three, one for the beginning of round, and two for the thumb gusset)
- Knit in eyelet pattern in the round gauge measures 15sts x21 rows over a 5cm x 5cm swatch after blocking
These mitts are designed to fit a hand with a palm circumference of aproximately 19cm. The lace makes the size relatively flexible.
