You are probably reading this because you want to knit a woollen nappy cover,
so I would just like to let you know a few things that make this a great pattern particularly because I have spent a long time designing just the right pattern to be effective in its use.
I firmly believe that a lot more people could be using woollen nappies instead of disposables or even biodegradable nappies if they were easy and effective to use.
This particular pattern, the Wool Over Wild Pants contains stitch choices that mean it does not require being lanolised, which is a process that almost put myself off of using wool nappies during the past 3 years of having 2 babies.
And if your still debating using wool over a cloth nappy then here are a few points to get you interested further
Wool is antibacterial in nature, so given an air or being put in the sun between uses breaks down any bacteria that may have soaked into it. It also means that it requires less washing than other material covers, such as bamboo or upvc, fleece, etc.
Wool is a natural and low processed fibre choice to put next to a Baby’s skin, its breathability reduces nappy sores and rashes plus its naturally water resistant on initial contact with moisture but then with time absorbs moisture protecting the babies skin from saturation.
The wool over, when made from 100% pure wool, will break down completely in a composting situation.
And finally if you were to source as locally as possible for your fibre /yarn you are instantly reducing the 1000s of miles involved in transporting other nappy types and materials round the world.
I best stop there and let you find your way.
Remember Wool is the Way that’s Worth it! Happy clicking
