Wool x Cotton Market Tote
Wool x Cotton Market Bag is the third project in the Summer Kitchen series. The .PDF is 20% off through July 29th. The discount is taken automatically at checkout, with no coupon code required.
Wool x Cotton is a drawstring-sack-style market bag with a fulled wool base, a slightly loose-knit cotton body, and four shop-bag/carrier-bag-style handles. The handles make the vessel more balanced when it’s used for hanging storage, and I think it is sometimes neat to use a carabiner to hold them all together, although this is really not necessary.
The base should add a little padded buffer between objects in the bag and hard surfaces you might set it on.
There’s also an i-cord drawstring to help keep your things secure.
Materials:
- WOOL: 150-200 yards of feltable DK-ish/light worsted wool, or a bit under half a skein of Lion Brand Fisherman’s Wool (shown in Oatmeal); COTTON: about 300 yds of Valley Yarns 3/2 cotton (shown in Sponge).
- 1 set of 5 DPNs and 1 16-24” circular needle in US9/5.5mm, or size needed for gauge.
- 8 removable stitch markers
- One crochet hook, in size suited to yarn.
- Optional: one flexible Tunisian crochet hook, same size, if available.
- Tapestry needle
Gauge:
For the felt/fulled/wool part: Gauge is 16 sts and 28 rows over 4”/10cm of garter stitch worked in the round, before blocking. Fulling/felting will determine the final size of the vessel.
For the cotton part: Gauge is sts and rows over 4”/
(I used one needle size for both, so my needle size was determined by the wool part of the project.)
Measurements:
Height excluding handles: 11”/28cm
Diameter of base: 9.5”/24cm
