You can utilize any fiber you have. If your pet has a small head like Woola (9 lbs), you can use scrap or left over yarn.
Make a gauge swatch with needle size. See next page for a work sheet. I would start with suggested needle size for your yarn but swatching will let you know what kind of structure the final Woola-clava will have.
Measure and test on your pets head as you knit it to check for fit, if possible.
If making this for someone else’s pet ask for these measurements:
Width in inches between pets ears
Length of head
Length from top of head to underneath chin
Neck width (incase this is much larger than head
Desired neck length
Gauge Swatch Work Sheet
Make a 2” x 2” or if you have enough yarn, a 4”x4” swatch (you can google your yarn information to see what the usual gauge is for 4” and recommended needle size)
_______ sts x ______ rows
2” x 2” or 4” x 4”
1” = _____ sts
When picking up sts along the 2 sides of rectangle, measure before hand to figure out how many sts to pick up.
Example: If side is 3” long and your swatch gives you 3 sts per 1” - 3sts x 3” = 9 sts to be picked up on each side.
