Woolwinding Eyelet Shawl
This is a deceptively simple eyelet shawl that can make a great introduction to lace knitting, and to knitting shawls, but is just as satisfying for experienced lace knitters. It’s already proved very popular with friends, fellow Guild members and customers in a local wool shop. Once the pattern is established, it’s really easy to understand if you make a mistake - and the lace pattern is only on one row of a six-row pattern repeat.
It really sings in a single skein of something gorgeous, but a good sock yarn is just as effective. For a bigger shawl, go for a yarn with longer meterage - Noro Kureyon Sock is a good example; Ranco’s Araucania Sock is similar but softer.
Gauge is unimportant, but knit a swatch if necessary (using the basic pattern repeat) to check that your knitted fabric isn’t too tight. It needs to drape.
