My little brother Gabriel was diagnosed with a very rare disease known as “F.I.R.E.S” (Febrile Infection-Related Epilepsy Syndrome), when he was about a month away from turning 4 years old. He has been in and out of hospitals ever since.
During a lot of his stays, he is given little stuffed toys or blankets for comfort. One such toy was a cute little square, googly-eyed monster with a squiggly smile. It has soft cloth tags on it that have “comic book actions words”, like “Zoom” and “Bam”. Our mom was tired and read one upside down, leading to her asking:
“What the heck is a wooz?”
Thus, the little square monster was dubbed “Wooz”, and has been in Gabriel’s collection ever since. I’ve been wanting to create a pattern for Wooz for a while now, and I hope that Wooz can bring comfort to other kids who may be going through a hard time, and just need a little buddy to cuddle.
