During the month of February 2019, I discounted my World of Difference Shawl to $5 and will donated $2 from each sale to the A World of Difference Institute. The A World of Difference Institute was co-founded by Lenny Zakim in 1986 (the Zakim bridge from which I drew inspiration for this design was named in honor Zakim in 2003).
The institute offers programs and resources designed to help participants: recognize bias and the harm it inflicts on individuals and society, build understanding of the value and benefits of diversity, improve intergroup relations, confront racism, anti-Semitism and all other forms of bigotry.

49 Patterns were purchased- I donated $100 to the World of Difference Institute! Thank you all!

World of Difference is a 5-colored shawl worked sideways. You begin on the right tip with an interesting garter-tab cast on with a mock icord edging and increase until you get to the center panel where triangles are worked with short rows. From there you’ll decrease for the left side of the shawl. Best of all, the design is all done in garter stitches and the colors change just often enough to keep you from getting bored!

About the Name

The name of this shawl is inspired by Leonard P Zakim and the beautiful suspension bridge that has since become an landmark in the Boston landscape. Lenny was a civil rights activist hired by the Anti-Defamation League as its New England Civil Rights Director and was the co-founder of A World of Difference Institute in 1986. As Mayor Tom Menino said “the dedication of the Leonard P. Zakim Bunker Hill Bridge will showcase the diversity and the unity of race, religion and personal background that exists in Boston today because of the work of community leaders like Lenny Zakim and because patriots fought long ago in Charlestown to make our country independent.”
