Woven or plaited basket stitch, as it is sometimes called, is tighter than regular stocking stitch so a variety of needle sizes is required to achieve the desired shape and size.

You will need 2 x 50g skeins of 8 ply, DK or worsted wool, 3 x16 inch circular knitting needles (4 mm, 5 mm and 6 mm sizes), set of 4 x 5 mm double point needles.
