This pattern in very flexible in terms or gauge and size. It is important to swatch to ensure you get the drape you want; but, because it is a top down shawl you can control the size. Just stop when it is big enough to suit you!
Also, the drape of the yarn is more important than size. Silk, bamboo, and alpaca have all worked well for me.
