This wrap was designed as part of Operation SJW, a collaborative effort with over 180 dyers, designers and makers of all kinds. We’ve come together in the name of social justice, to help to raise money for various charities around the world that work to help to improve the lives of members of marginalized communities around the world. I chose to make my donation to The Trevor Project, an organization that works to provide crisis management and suicide prevention services to LGBTQ youth. I named this wrap Wrapped In Rainbows as a bit of a metaphor for the spirit of the project, at least in my mind. We are wrapping each other in love and light and taking a stand against hatred. I hope that you’ll join me and knit a beautiful rainbow for yourself or someone that you love.
I teamed up with Yarn Over New York for this design, using a set of seven of their speckled rainbow minis and a skein of their new color way “I Believe You”. This color way is being offered as part of Operation SJW as well, and they have chosen to support RAINN with their efforts. RAINN is the largest anti-sexual violence organization in America and works to help survivors of sexual assault as well as carrying out programs to prevent sexual violence.
You can find their yarn here.
Gauge and final measurements
The stated gauge and final measurements for the wrap are given after aggressive blocking. I wanted to have a light and airy wrap when I was finished so I did stretch it to its limits. The finished measurements for my sample were 87” in length along the straight edge and 24” in width measured straight across. The overall length from bias tip to opposing bias tip is 118”. The pattern does include a schematic to help you to get a feel for the shape and size.
