Inspired by the textures and stitch patterns in the Harmony Guides by Interweave Press, I paired a simple seeded ribbing together with a wrapped smocked stitch pattern to create a classic hat that works well with both variegated and semi-solid yarns. The knit stitch ridges create geometric lines that travel from the edges through a wrapped stitch section, creating visual interest through textural elements. Yarn: 80(98, 124, 140, 158, 186) yrds 73(90, 113, 128, 145, 170)m DK or light worsted weight yarn for the hat; 220 yrds(201m) DK or light worsted weight yarn for the cowl
Gauge: Four options are listed for gauge. Choose one or two to determine if you have achieved gauge necessary.

• approx. 11/16 “ (1.75cm) on US5 (3.75mm) in Seeded Ridges from middle of ridge to middle of next ridge
• approx. 8 rows = 1” (2.54cm) on US5 (3.75mm) in Seeded Ridges
• approx. 1¼” (3.75cm) on US7(4.5mm) in Diamond Wraps from middle of wrap to middle of next wrap
• 19 sts = 4” (10cm) in stockinette on US7(4.5mm) (not used in pattern, but can be used to estimate)

Want a cowl? Removed designation to avoid confusion for the Gift-a-long categories, but note included in the pattern to leave off decreases and add ribbing to create just that.
