Wristwarmers "Adèle"
These pretty wristwarmers were published for the first time in “Weldon’s Practical Knitter” from 1889.
In a corner of my Victorian sewing table, which belonged to my great-great-grandmother, I found a skein of soft pink yarn waiting to be used. It seemed perfect for this small project. These wristwarmers are ideally suitable for using up leftover yarn.
The yarn I found is a Merino yarn from Lang Yarns, which happens to be a perfect match.
You could also knit the borders in stripes and use up tiny yarn leftovers.
The pattern has the funny name of “Fluted Banister Pattern”. I image one of those elaborate, carved banisters in an old Victorian townhouse, where one didn’t really climb the stairs, one floated up them, so to speak.
The wristwarmers are knit in the round, and can easily be whipped up in an evening or two. They can, of course, also be knit flat and seamed.
