Wrought Iron Gate Pillows
From the book “Deep South Knitting” and inspired by Charleston, South Carolina. Now available for download. Pattern includes South Carolina travel info and Bourbon & Brown Sugar Praline recipe.
Charleston has a singular and sophisticated culture that has survived from its founding in 1670 through the American Revolution, Civil War and into the present. While the city has long been safe from rampaging Redcoats, many of the old buildings’ magnificent wrought iron gates still stand, now protecting South Carolina’s oldest city and its inhabitants from door-to-door salesmen (if nothing else). Those gates inspired this elegant set of throw pillows, featuring the designs of a scroll, a lyre and perhaps the city’s most famous wrought iron masterpiece, the Swordgate. These knitted gates may not keep out unwanted suitors, or guests who overstay their welcome, but they will definitely gussy up your favorite chaise, divan or fainting couch.
