Wrought Iron Hat
When you buy this pattern with the Wrought Iron Cowl, you will get both patterns for $7.50 (prior purchases included).
Like the coordinating Wrought Iron Cowl, this hat was inspired by decorative window grates in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Slightly slouchy, this hat uses twisted stitches and two-stitch cables to create a raised pattern. Solid or tonal yarns will work best to show off the pattern. Learn something new with this pattern as you try the German Twisted Cast-On.
The pattern can be knit in lace weight yarn held double (360 yds) or one strand of sport weight yarn (180 yds).
Finished Size: approx. 17” (43 cm) around (unstretched at ribbing) and 9” (23 cm) tall from cast-on edge to top This hat is very stretchy and is being modeled on a 23” (58 cm) head. For a shorter hat, you may choose to knit two repeats of the pattern instead of three before decreasing.
Materials:
• Laceweight yarn (held double) such as Malabrigo Lace, 360 yds (329 m) or sport weight yarn (single strand), 180 yds (165 m)
• US Size 4 (3.5 mm) 16” (41 cm) and DPNs (or size needed to obtain gauge)
• Stitch markers (several different kinds/colors)
• Cable needle
• Tapestry needle
