The Wychwood Toque is a bottom-up hat featuring an all-over divided double diamond motif. Crisp cable lines set off against the ample negative space of a purled background combine for a striking geometric motif that will knit up surprisingly quickly.

This pattern is for you if… You are an unabashed lover of mini-cables and ample negative space that set them off.

Move along if… Lots and lots of cables are not your idea of a good time.

TECHNIQUES/SKILLS

• knitting in the round
• making knit and purl stitches, including knitting through the back loop (k1tbl)
• increasing and decreasing stitches
• making cables using up to two stitches

One size, unstretched, approximately:

• Small: 15” / 38cm circumference
• Medium: 17.25” / 44cm circumference
• Large: 19.25” / 49cm circumference
• Extra Large: 21.5” / 54.5cm circumference
• All sizes: 8.5”/21.5cm tall

Worsted weight yarn that showcases cables well in the following amount:

• Small: 136 yards (124 meters) / 57 grams (2.1oz)
• Medium: 155 yards (142 meters) / 65 grams (2.3oz)
• Large: 174 yards (159 meters) / 74 grams (2.6oz)
• Extra Large: 194 yards (177 meters) / 82 grams (2.9oz)

NEEDLES & NOTIONS

• 1 US 5/3.75mm 16”/40cm circular needle, or size necessary to obtain gauge
• 1 US 6/4mm 16”/40cm circular needle, or size necessary to obtain gauge
• 1 set of US 6/4mm double pointed needles, or size necessary to obtain gauge
• stitch markers
• tapestry needle for weaving in ends

GAUGE

• Per 4”/10cm in stockinette, unblocked: 19 stitches / 26 rows
• Per 4”/10cm in cable pattern, blocked: 30 stitches / 31 rows
• Per pattern repeat, blocked: 2 1/8” / 5.3cm
