Pattern Notes
• This pattern uses US crochet terms (UK terms in brackets)
• The pattern uses simple stitches and requires working into a chain, slip stitching and working in rows
• Instructions written after asterisks should be repeated as indicated
Skills Level – Easy
Knowledge of basic crochet stitches is assumed
Materials
Hook: 5mm hook
Yarn: Any Worsted weight yarn of choice.
Leg Warmers shown
Color A (main) Craftsmart Never Enough Peach Approx. 50g,
Color B (Accent) Tent Sale Monster Ball Cool Blue approx. 50g
Other: Yarn needle & scissors
Gauge is not essential in this pattern
Measurements & finished size
Leg- warmers pictured measures approx. 5 inches wide at the top and 4 inches wide at the bottom and length 12 inches: sized to fit an average 4 – 5 yo.
But you can keep working your leg-warmers until you are happy with the sizing
Stitches & Abbreviations: US terms (UK terms)
ch = chain
dc = double crochet (UK treble crochet)
rep = repeat
sc = single crochet (UK double crochet)
sk = skip (UK: miss)
sp = space
ss = slip stitch
st(s) = stitch(es)
fpdc = front post double crochet (UK front post treble crochet)
bpdc = back post double crochet (UK back post treble crochet)
Top Ribbing
Using color B
Row 1: Ch 13, working in the back loop only; make 1 hdc into 3rd chain from hook
1 hdc in all stiches ch 1 turn (11 stitches)
Row 2: Back loop only make 1 hdc in all stitches across ch 1 turn (11 stitches)
Row 3 – 24: Repeat row 2 (or until the desired calf size is achieved)
Turn your work to wrong side work, align the 2 edges to be joined
with a slip stitch and working in both loops on the front part linked to back loop only on the edge behind join together.
Do not fasten off.
Chain 1, turn work to right side
Begin Main body
CHANGE COLOR (using color A)
Chain 1 again
Row 1: Make 1 dc evenly spaced all around. Do not join
Row 2: Working in rounds proceed straight by making 1 dc into the top of the ch2 on the previous row and 1 dc in each stich around
(use stitch marker to mark the beginning stitch)
Row 3 – 4: Repeat Row 2
Decrease stitches: at the end of row 4 d2tog into last 2 stitches before the marker
Row 5 – 8: repeat Row 2
Decrease stitches: at the end of row 8 d2tog into last 2 stitches before the marker.
Row 9 – 12: Repeat Row 2
Decrease stitches: at the end of row 12 d2tog into last 2 stitches before the marker.
Row 13: 1 dc in each stitch around until last 4 stitches
To close off body in last 4 stitches before marker:
1 dc, 1hdc, 1sc, 1 slip stich.
Bottom Ribbing
Turn your work sideways
Ch 12
Row 1: working back towards the rim of the leg-warmer.
Make 1 sc in 2nd chain form hook and 1 sc in each stitch across (11stitches)
Slip stitch into the next 2 stitches on the rim
Turn
Row 2: skip the 2 slip stitches
Make 1 sc in back loop only across (11 stiches)
Ch 1 Turn
Row 3: Make 1 sc in back loop only across (11 stitches)
Repeat Row 2 & row 3 until all stitches on the rim are covered.
Finishing off and fastening
Turn your work to wrong side, align the 2 edges to be joined with a slip stitch and working in both loops on the front part linked to back loop only on the edge behind join together.
