Xmas Stocking Tree Decoration
This scrappy little project is a great way to use up some of your stash. These stockings are flat knit and seamed. You could easily knit and complete one of these in under 2 hours.
I am using mine as tree decorations this year by adding o loop of yarn or ribbon to the top. You could also make enough to create your own version of an advent calendar or to use as placeholders for your dinner guests.
While the pattern I wrote used DK yarn and 3.5mm needles there is no reason that you cannot use whatever yarn weight you choose (with suitable needle size). I think having various sizes and textures of decoration will only serve to make the tree look even better.
This pattern is suitable for all levels of knitter. The pattern is easy to knit. You will need to be able to cast on, knit, purl, K2tog, P2tog and cast off.
The measurement of the stocking using Hayfield Bonus DK is approximately 11 cm/4.5” tall and a “leg -width” of 5cm/2”. The measurement using King Cole Glitzy DK is 10 cm/4” and a “leg-width” of 4.5cm/1.75”.
Materials
3.5 mm straight needles (SPNs)
