Yacht Scarf
Release Weekend Sale! Get the pattern for 50% off until June 19th! Use code YACHTSCARF at checkout
This is the perfect pattern for someone who loves a self-striping yarn by either A) doesn’t want to (or know how to) knit socks OR B) doesn’t want to wear a beautiful colourway on their feet!
Knit flat, this 4-row repeat is easy to memorize and knits up in no time. It makes for a great one skein traveling project as you can just knit until the yarn runs out.
There is no gauge as you can use whatever yarn and needle size combination that makes the fabric you like!
There are instructions included for a scarf and cowl version.
Sock Weight Scarf: 100g of Scrumptious Purl Stripe Me Up on 3.75mm needles
Sport Weight Scarf: 170g of Gauge Dye Works Sport Weight on 4.5mm needles
Sock Weight Cowl: 70g of Yarn Enabler Self Striping Merino Nylon Fingering on 4mm needles
Stitches used include k, p, k2tog, sl1p and kfb (there’s a link for a video on the last one)
The name: I was searching for a project to make my SIL for Mother’s Day. I saw the Scrumptious Purl colourway “Come Sail Away” and instantly knew it had to be something for her (they are totally her colours and her married name is pronouced “Yacht”). I knew I didn’t have time to knit socks so I went on the hunt for something else and found this stitch pattern. I knew the stripey stitch pattern, coupled with the stripey yarn was the way to go. While in progress I was watching an episode of the Grocery Girls podcast (i think) and they were talking about not wanting to wear beautiful stripey yarns on your feet or people wanting the yarn but not knowing how to knit socks. It confirmed how I felt about some yarns… I want people to see the beautiful stripes (but I rarely wear my handknit socks out of the house) … problem solved!
Wear, Share or Sell what you make but please let people know who got you started!
