Yak's Simple Arm Warmers
As always, Mr Yak is looking for new ways to keep warm. I knit these for myself, but they promptly disappeared! Hmmm. I may have to rethink this. Meanwhile, these are simple arm warmers that go up to your elbow, but have room enough to be folded over to make shorter, get scrunched up around your wrists, or can even be worn over a light shirt or under-layer. These are quick to knit up, and are an easy way to show off a bit of a special yarn you have, or even just use up those pesky leftovers that are just hanging around not earning their keep. Be creative and make these yummies your own!
They are knitted flat and seamed, and the skills necessary are: knit, purl, cast on & off (making a buttonhole for your thumb), seaming, and optionally, using a crochet hook to make a single crochet at the cast off edge.
The materials needed:
200-220 yards of worsted yarn knitting up at 4.5 stitches per inch
150-170 of a Main Color
50 yards of a Contrast Color
US 8 (5mm) knitting needles
Tapestry needle
Crochet hook (optional)
There are three sizes (S, M, L), and they are not fitted - instead they are a bit generously sized at the wrist when made to gauge. There should be about an inch of positive ease at the wrist, and fit more closely along the forearm and across the palm of the hand (the Medium size measures 13 3/4” long). They extend from the base of the index finger to a couple inches short of the elbow, but can be folded or scrunched up closer to your wrist.
This pattern is a quick knit, and has written instructions suitable for new knitters, of knitters who are a bit rusty (Hi mommy!), as well a little “how to wet block” section.
