This shrug is the perfect complement to a light summer dress worn to a garden party on a cool evening. The unusual Trellis Stitch pattern is quite easy to work. You can wear this piece as a shrug with buttons on the lower arms or, buttoned another way, a wrap fastened as you see in third picture.

The shrug can be made in two sizes, both 17” wide. The smaller size is up to 44” long and takes 2 skeins. This size will make a shrug that comes to the forearm on people up to 5’8”.

The larger shrug is up to 62” long and takes 3 skeins. The larger size will make a shrug that comes to the forearm of people over 5’8” or a long sleeve on shorter people.

The model is 5’7” and is wearing a 44-inch small shrug.

TECHNIQUES USED

Provisional Cast-on (your choice), yarn-overs, slip stitches, passing a slipped stitch over three stitches, crocheted border.

DESIGN NOTES
Decide how far down your arm you want the sleeve of the shrug to come. Remember that the circumference of the “sleeve” will be about 17”. Measure from where you want the shrug to end to the tip of your middle finger. Generally, the measurement from fingertip to fingertip is the same as your height. You can determine the length of the shrug you want by subtracting two times the measurement you just took from your height. The result is about the length of the shrug you will need. You might want to add an inch or two to accommodate bent elbows.

There are buttonholes on all sides of the shrug so it can be buttoned in any direction, with as many buttons as you want.
