My daughter-in-law introduced our family to the Lunar New Year celebrations and suggested I create a pattern inspired by it. These socks are meant to help you usher in the year of the Snake, or celebrate someone you love who might have been born under this zodiac sign. I hope they make you smile and feel lucky all year long!

This pattern is written and charted, and knit cuff down.

Yarn and notions:

Yarn: 1 skein 100-115g (400-450 yards) Fingering weight yarn
Sample in Leo BFL yarn (80% BFL, 20% nylon), from Alley Cat Yarns
Colourway: Canoodle

Alley Cat Yarns website: https://alleycatyarns.ca/collections/leo-bfl-sock-1

Needles:
Cuff: 2.25 mm with a long cable for magic loop
Leg, heel and foot: 2.5 mm needles (see note below) with a long cable for magic loop
This section of the pattern features cables on multiple rounds which tend to make knits tighter. I went up a needle size to 2.5mm for the main part of the sock for that reason. If you are a naturally very tight knitter, you may wish to go up to 2.75 mm.

Other notions: cable needle, stitch markers, scissors, darning needle

Gauge: 8 sts = 1 inch in stockinette

Sizes: (choose a size that is slightly smaller than your foot circumference for a snug fit)
Small, 60 sts, finished circumference 7 inches
Medium, 68 sts, finished circumference 8 inches
Large, 76 sts, finished circumference 9 inches
