Yellow Roses
75% of the profits from the sale of this pattern throughout October and November 2016 went to MindUK, a mental health charity. I sold 138 copies and made a donation of £220, thank you so much.
There will be a KAL for Yellow Roses in the Knit Read Pray Podcast group through the month of November, so jump over and join Lauras group if you haven’t already.
Yellow Roses is the last in a trio of shawls inspired by my “Grandmothers Flower Garden” Scarf. This one is dedicated to my Fraser who lost his battle with mental health in 2010 aged 30. Although you can knit this in any colour, yellow roses became important to Frasers mum and I after his death.
This pattern contains the pattern for a single colour shawl which uses a rose lace pattern on a stockinette base, with garter edge and border.
The shawl is an elongated crescent, which is easy to knit and wear, knit from the top down all in one piece.
It uses just one 100g skein of fingering weight yarn. I recommend solid, tonals and lightly variegated yarns to show the lace off.
You will need approximately 450 yards (411m) of fingering weight yarn. There are notes in the pattern for guidance on using approximately 400y, 420y and 440y, all within the garter border.
I used Knit Picks Stroll Tonal in the Colour Poppy Field, using 92g = 423yards / 387m
Please note I am a tight knitter so if you don’t do a gauge swatch then you will need more yarn than I did, hence the larger yardage requirements.
Please note the red version was a prototype and lacks the border.
The pattern has full written instructions, with regular stitch counts and guidance on yardage; an abbreviations key; charted instructions and written instructions and notes on blocking.
Gauge – 20 stitches = 32 rows = 4” in stockinette stitch, blocked - although this is not crucial. Please note that you may need more or less yarn if yours differs from this.
Finished blocked dimensions – Approx. = 69” long by 14” at widest point (175 x 36 cm)
