This the first hat in the National Park Hats Collection #2 for 2021! Yellowstone will be the first hat in this second collection from Kristen in Stitches and will be released mid-January 2021. One new hat design per month will be released inspired by a different US National Park each month!

I visited Yellowstone National Park when I was 11 years old with my family on a long road trip from our home in Oregon to the Grand Tetons and Yellowstone. My memories of that trip are a little fuzzy, but I definitely remember seeing Old Faithful spew hot water into the air and I remember there were bears in our campground at night. Yellowstone is a beautiful park and I can’t wait to return one day soon with my own kids.!

What I know for sure is that I wanted my design for Yellowstone to be a classic stocking cap -- warm and cozy but simple to knit. I wanted it to be rustic but just as at home on a hike, on the ski run, around a campfire, or in town. I designed the color as an homage to the landmark geyser “Old Faithful” and this hat emulates just that sentiment. It’s bound to become your go-to, old faithful hat design you knit as gift or keep on hand for those cold winter days.

I wrote this pattern to work for just about any size head, so make one for you and then make another for the park-lover in your life! Adjust the brim to your preference - tips on various brim lengths/styles are in the pattern!

Materials:
-1 Skein of Kristen in Stitches American Worsted in color “Old Faithful” or approximately 240 yards of DK weight yarn.
-US Size 5 & 6 - 16” circular needles
-US Size 6 Double Pointed needles
-Stitch marker
-Waste yarn (enough for provisional Cast-on)
-US G or H Crochet hook
-Darning needle for weaving in ends

Sizes to fit:
XS - 19” head
S - 20” head
M - 21” head
L - 22” head
XL - 23” head
