Yingarna
Sweet and simple – Yingarna is an asymmetrical triangle shawl that’s easy and fun to knit. Starting with a small number of stitches, the shawl is worked sideways with the lace border being knit on each side of the growing center garter stitch section. The piece is finished by knitting-on the border along the third edge of the shawl. A gradient yarn is perfect for this pattern, and Yarn In The Box’s Great Gradients fits the bill. It’s light, it’s squishy, and the color transitions are absolutely marvelous.
Yarn used for shawl shown: Yarn In The Box, Great Gradients, 100% superwash merino (500 yards/122g), in color Opalescent (1 ball)
Materials
- 450 yards of fingering weight yarn
- US Size 4 (3.5 mm), 24” circular needle or longer, or size needed to obtain gauge
- 2 stitch markers
- Tapestry needle
- Blocking supplies
Pattern Notes
You may find it helpful to use an additional stitch marker to note the right side of the shawl.
Want to make your shawl bigger? You can make your shawl larger by adding additional repeats of chart B to desired length, ending with row 7. Remember, adding length to your shawl will affect the amount of yarn needed.
You will need approximately 15 grams/60 yards of yarn for chart C. This yardage may vary if you are using a different weight of yarn or your gauge is different. If you make your shawl larger, as indicated above, each additional repeat of chart B will require additional yarn to complete chart C.
