Ymbren is Old English for a circuit or revolution (ymb – around + ryne – a course) as it relates to the cycle of the four seasons of the year. The motif on this cowl are all repeated in fours – four petals in the center, four repetitions of the meandering pathway in the tilted-square surrounding the centre, four sets of leaves at the top and bottom bracketing the pathways. The repetition of fours brought to mind the progression of the seasons, and so the name came seemed apt. Mark your journey through the passing seasons with this stranded knitting, bulky weight cowl.
