The Young Hearts Cowl and matching Hat which is a stranded colour-work pattern that can be made for children or adults. Instructions are included for three different sizes; one for adults, one for children aged 6-10 (ish) years old and one for toddlers aged 2-5 (ish) years old. I say “-ish” as this is a rough guide and the pattern is easy to adjust. I also recognise we are all different and so the sizes are a best-fit guide.

Personally, I love a cowl rather than a scarf, especially with children as there is less to get tangled in and it is so cosy and warm. And we all want a matching hat!

The patterns can be amended to suit your needs in terms of width, depth and colour, so have fun making and adapting the pattern!! I have now tested the cowl pattern in Malabrigo Arroyo in the adult size and it is gorgeous!

I have illustrated three different colour-ways but there are many more options to play with! This pattern is also great for stash busting. Within my patterns I sometimes use my stash and so don’t remember the brand and colour of the yarns but hopefully this doesn’t stop you from knitting your perfectly, cosy, young hearts cowl. My go to yarn is double knit and I try to aim for similar meters/yardage as Stylecraft Special DK.
