Yours or mine
Yours or mine: we are mother and daughter in the house, meaning that at winter-time we cannot be entirely sure that a favorite hat is there when you look for it:)) It will be interesting to see what happens with this one.
Design The broad, ribbed brim of the hat can be turned back giving the hat the look of a beanie. With the brim un-turned the hat gives a more slouchy style.
The stranded pattern follows the hat in the main-body of the hat, as well as into the shaping of the crown, giving the pattern a star-shaped look.
Size: The hat is ONE-SIZE. If worked at gauge the circumference of the hat will be 46cm/18.5”. The height of the hat from cast-on to bind-off: 26cm/10.25” The fabric is quite stretchy, meaning that this size will suit many head-sizes (grown-ups). If you want a smaller hat you should work at a finer gauge. If you want a larger hat you should work at a looser gauge.
Materials
Yarn: I used the Worsted weight yarn “AlpakkaUll” from Sandnes Garn to work the hat. This yarn comes in balls of 50gr/1.76oz and 100m/109yards. You will need 2 balls of MC (grey), 1 ball of CC (pink). Please note that I only neede a tiny bit of ball number 2 of the grey yarn.
Needles: circular needle size 3.5mm/US4 for the brim, circular needle 4.5mm/US7 for the main body of the hat, dpns 4.5mm/US7 for the shaping of the crown
Notions: a removable stitch-marker (or 7 stitch-markers if you want to place a marker between each pattern-repeat).
The pattern
All measurements given are in cm’s as well as in inches.
The stranded pattern is charted only. The shaping of the crown is charted and with written notes.
Knitting skills
This is a good pattern if you are new to stranded knitting, as there are two colors only, the pattern is repeated evenly in the round, and you work from RS only.
You need to be able to cast on, work in the round, follow a chart, work simple decreases. And Vollá:)
Sorry about the photos… the photographer (read me) didn’t have the right skills (nor the light).. Hopefully it will not prevent you from making the hat:)
