Yule is the Celtic Druid festival to celebrate the winter solstice. The Yule log would be lit and burned to chase away the evil spirits of the dark winter and to celebrate the coming of the young Oak King and the chasing away of the darkness, associated with the old Holly King, as the sun is reborn.
