Yummy Scrummy Cupcakes
I have tried a few patterns, some too much work to sew together, some too straight and upright, others too small and flat… So, in an attempt to solve this invented problem of mine, I have been clicking away and coming up with my own little pattern to put forward into the world of knitted cakes…
Pattern Notes
I’m rather pleased with them as they are knitted in the round and require no seaming. (hoorah!)
Skill Level
Intermediate
There is a little fiddly bit where you have to pick up stitches to get the ‘cake inside of the case’ look, but as this was exactly what I wanted and couldn’t find on other patterns, I felt it was well worth the extra effort! (Hopefully you with agree!)
If you would like to try my cupcake pattern for 4ply yarn, please have a look at my Yummy Cotton Candy Cupcakes which are re-sized for fingering/sock yarn. Also, I have simplified the pattern a little.
Yarn
Some small amounts of suitable colour yarn for case, cake and icing. I used dk yarn, but anything will do, your cupcake will just be slightly bigger, or smaller
Needles
Double pointed needles
(I used 4 size 4mm/UK 8/US6 dpns, but substitute for an appropriate size for your yarn if necessary)
Materials
Yarn Needle
Cardboard (for cake base)
Stuffing
Size
Approximately 8cm (3.5”) high
Gauge
Not critical
Pattern Includes:
* A full written pattern with clear instructions
