Zalktis Pullover is a striking and deep-running colorwork sweater featuring an ancient Latvian sign of wisdom and bearer of blessing - Zalktis (grass snake).
Its construction shows off two hot trends - a turtleneck and being oversized. It is worked seamlessly in the round from the top down with raglan shaping, which means the length of sleeves and body are easily adjustable.

Yarn used in sample (size 2) is 4 skeins of Spincycle Yarns Metamorphic (50% recycled wool, 50% merino wool; 366 m 400 yds / 126 g) in Cool black colourway and 2 skeins of Spincycle Yarns Dyed In The Wool (100% superwashed American wool; 183 m 200 yds / 50 g) in Cold Comfort colourway

Gauge: 22 sts & 28 rows = 10 cm / 4” in Colorwork Stockinette stitch in the round, blocked.

Suggested needles:

• 3.75 mm - 4 mm (US 5-6) circulars 60-80 cm / 24-32”
• 2.75 mm (US 2) circulars 40-60 cm / 16-24”

Notions: Crochet hook and smooth waste yarn for provisional cast-on, stitch markers, row counter, scissors, tape measure, tapestry needle, locking stitch markers or bobby-pins if using Japanese short rows.

Techniques used: Provisional cast-on, lifted increases, Japanese short rows, stranded colorwork, tubular bind-off.

Difficulty: Intermediate

Notes: The sweater is worked seamlessly from the top down. Neckline stitches are cast-on provisionally and yoke worked in the round down to underarms with raglan shaping. The body and sleeves are separated, the body is worked in the round straight down to the hem and finished with 2x2 rib and tubular bind-off. Sleeves are worked in the round with decreases down to the cuffs and finished with a 2x2 rib and tubular bind-off. Provisional cast-on is unpicked and neckline stitches worked in the round in 2x2 rib to form the collar.
